The Many Facettes Of Queer Cinema 1157z/211w
Queer is an umbrella sheltering non-hetero people

Curating Queer Cinema since the late 70s – and before the term queer was used the way it is now: as a representation of a worldwide population of some 20 percent – I have come to the conclusion that the LGBTIQ* world, in many parts, has emancipated itself from the corner it was kept hostage by the hetero norm. Excluded from society and family alike, queer people have fought their way back into the community.

This was a process leading from the extreme minority of activists (60s-70s) via a consumerist hedonism of many (80s-90s) to the equal rights level of today. After all, during this period struggle, the goal was – equality. Not much, isn’t it!? It’s a human right, no more, no less.
But still, in most places on planet earth, this has not been achieved, and is still far from being achieved even in the near future. Torture and killing is what most societies come up with for their own queer population.
To show the fight, to show the results, to show the process and the fun – and motivating not to give up ever as to strengthen our queer folks where needed – this is what we hope to support with our film programming: Welcome to a selection of Berlinale films!

No mucho, ¿verdad?
